More about St Albans Operatic Society

Anything GoesTo break down some common misconceptions - there is nothing exceptional about the people who join our Society. We are all ordinary people who get satisfaction out of doing the things we love. Some of us have great fun learning and singing our favourite music week by week. Others enjoy seeking out the right costumes or choosing the sets, finding the props or making the tea - there are a myriad of jobs to get involved in. Whilst doing so we’re having a great time and making friends - or is it simply drumming up a thirst to go to the local after rehearsal?

Rehearsal 2Admittedly there is more to it than that, we do have an extremely professional attitude and are very proud of our illustrious productions.

We present two major shows at the Alban Arena or Sandpit Theatre each year and we provide our members, as well as our audiences, with all sorts of different productions to enjoy. In recent years we have performed 42nd Street, Man of la Mancha, Anything Goes, West Side Story, Half a Sixpence, The Wizard of Oz, Carousel and The Mikado.

With team effort, whether its a modern musical, G&S, opera or operetta, we always rise to the occasion and attract superb principals, who like the rest of us, just perform for love.

Come and join us!

Rehearsal

We normally rehearse full chorus each Tuesday evening 7.45pm - 10.15pm at St John Fisher School, St Albans.

Principal rehearsals take place on Thursdays 7.45pm - 10.15pm, also at St John Fisher. There are occasional Sunday rehearsals.

There is an audition process for those who wish to perform onstage and we always welcome members who prefer to work backstage.
