The island of Terhou - somewhere near Jersey - has enjoyed peace and tranquility since the time of the Romans.  But the peace is disturbed by the arrival of a rich heroine, hotly pursued a dashing racing motorist (who is after her) and a ruthless female reporter (who is after her story).  The inhabitants are variously affected by this sudden surge of sophistication, but alarmed at the prospect of becoming a holiday island.  How they are led by their feudal lord in a spirited attempt to avert disaster will be seen as our tale unfolds.
