The great Czech composer, Anton
Dvorak, comes incognito to Willow Falls, a settlement of Bohemian lumberman in
the Middle West. The real power is Ma Flannagan who is buying up land but
concealing the fact that a railroad is to pass right through the town. Her
scheme is hindered, however, when her only son falls in love with Karolka, a new
and pretty Czech immigrant. Karolka's Uncle Marek also thwarts her
plans. Dvorak not only takes a job playing the piano at "Flannagans"
but plays poker to pay off Marek's tax debts. He learns from Abe, a negro
man of all work, the theme for his New World Symphony. After forcing Ma
Flannagan to pay a just price for Marek's land, he smoothes the path of true
love between Karolka and Shaun, while enjoying a musical triumph in New York.
